Short answer: click Watch on any thread or forum you care about, then choose how you want to be notified: on-site alerts, email, or push notifications (if enabled).

Alerts vs. email
- Alerts show up on the site at the top right, with a number for how many are new.
- Email goes to the address in your account settings.
- Push notifications can show alerts on your phone or desktop if you've enabled them in your browser or installed the site as a web app.
- Open the thread.
- Click Watch near the top right.
- Choose whether you also want email, then save.
- Threads you post in or reply to may be watched automatically, depending on your preferences.
- Open the forum (for example MLB Betting) and click Watch.
- You can choose to be notified of new threads only or of every new message. Pick "new threads" for busy forums.
- Open your account menu and go to Preferences.
- Click Enable push notifications (your browser will ask for permission).
- Tick the Push boxes for the alerts you want, then save at the bottom.
Managing it all
- Your account menu lists Watched threads and Watched forums, where you can unwatch in bulk.
- Alert preferences let you switch off things you don't care about.
