Short answer: online casinos are legal in Maine but not live yet, and regulators are pointing to early 2027 as a possible launch.

The law - LD 1164, "An Act to Create Economic Opportunities for the Wabanaki Nations Through Internet Gaming," passed in June 2025. - Gov. Janet Mills let it become law without her signature in January 2026, and it took effect in July 2026. - Only the four Wabanaki Nations can offer online casino games, each with one operator partner, so a maximum of four platforms.

Who's lined up - Caesars has deals with three of the four: the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians, the Mi'kmaq Nation and the Penobscot Nation. - Planned brands are Caesars Palace Online Casino, Caesars Sportsbook & Casino and Horseshoe Online Casino, sharing one login and wallet with the Caesars Sportsbook already operating in Maine since 2023. - The Passamaquoddy Tribe had not announced a partner as of mid-2026.

Why it isn't live yet - Rulemaking, licensing and platform approvals by the Maine Gambling Control Unit are still in progress. As of late October 2026, the unit's director said an early 2027 launch seems possible.

Until then, any site offering real-money slots to Maine players is not state-licensed.

Mainers: would you sign up on day one, and which brand do you hope takes the fourth license?
